Arch pain is often felt as a burning sensation under the long arch of the foot. There are a number of causes of this, but the most common is plantar fasciitis (inflammation of the muscle that runs along the bottom of the foot), but can also be due to the strain of any structure in the arch of the foot. The plantar fascia is a broad band of fibrous tissue located along the bottom surface of the foot, which runs from the heel to the forefoot. The plantar fascia can become inflamed due to over pronation (flat feet) which causes the arch pain.
