Observations in assessing for optimal alignment:
With balanced musculature and optimal alignment, left and right plantar pressure profiles and weight distribution are symmetrical and CoF is located at about mid-line between the feet and at mid-tarsal level.
This information has useful clinical applications:
Plantar pressure and gait analysis for sports applications such as running, soccer, baseball, basketball, walking, hockey, football, skiing, and golf.
- Identifying and preventing areas of potential ulceration (sores)
- Monitoring degenerative foot disorders
- Observing gait abnormalities
- Immediately determining the efficiency of orthotic arch support
- Pre- and post-surgical evaluations
- Troubleshooting for orthotic and treatment plan failures
RS Scan is a state of the art pressure plate hardware and software attached to a computer. This technology assists your podiatrist in analysing your gait (walking) and detecting unusual foot function which may be affecting the rest of your body.
Why RS Scan is important
Your foot is in contact with the ground for about 0.8 of a second when walking and about 0.25 seconds when running. Imagine trying to determine normal or abnormal foot function with the naked eye in a quarter of a second? This is too difficult for even the most experience practitioner.
How a RS SCan works
The RS Scan system records your timing sequences during gait as you walk or run across the pressure plate. This enables your podiatrist to have a clear picture of your foot mechanics and determine whether you would benefit from wearing prescription orthotics.
A RS Scan analysis system is often necessary to accurately assess an individual’s need for orthotic therapy. The RS scan can record timing sequences during gait as a patient walks or runs across a pressure plate. The foot scan can record precise plantar pressure measurements with 4096 sensors at a scanning rate of up to 300Hz or 300 measurements per second.
